Looking at Google search results

It is important to understand how Google shows results. Google distributes its data across thousands of servers all over the world. They call these datacenters. Most of the times these data centers are the same as long as they are in the same country. When Google makes changes they often times start out on a few datacenters and then the changes propagate throughout the whole system. You can check the different data centers by accessing them by IP address. I use a tool called the "Google datacenter Watch Tool". This lets me see changes.

There are some unique situations that can give you false data. The first is when Google is giving you personalized search results. If you are logged into Google they may show sites you visit a lot higher than they normally would show up. All you have to do is make sure you are not logged into Google. The other situation is sometimes Google might be doing some testing. Sometimes they will show datacenters that are testing features that they are thinking about releasing later. This does not mean that they will just that they might. They may also sometimes roll things backwords or an old machine came up. Nobody knows. The rule is never get too excited or upset just because of some big change. Check to see if it is on other datacenters first. Also wait a day or two. It is not unusual for it to go back to normal after a few days. I have even seen this happen after a week or more.
