Pagerank
Google rates websites with something called pagerank. It is bar that is displayed on the Google toolbar. It can be anywhere from 0 to 10. A few years ago this played a big part in how you ranked in Google. Some even say that the number means nothing any more because a site with lower PR can rank higher than a site with higher PR. I would not go as far as to say it means nothing. It is still something to strive for. Nobody knows for sure how Google comes up with the PR value. There are many people who have tried to guess and Google even published an algorithm many years ago. We do know for sure that the current PR algorithm Google is using has changed quite a bit. Some even say that Google keeps a different PR number internally. From what I have seen when you get a link from a site your site will get one less PR value than the PR of that site. You can raise your PR by getting lots of links from sites with lower PR than you have. Google does not update the toolbar PR very often. It might change every 3 or 4 months sometimes even longer. Having a higher PR is a good thing. Having a low PR or no PR is not something to panic over. You should only be worried if your site starts to lose ranking. The main point of this tip is just to let you know what PR is.
