Pick a good domain name
Picking a domain for your company is very important and should not be taken lightly. When picking out your domain name the first thing to do is try to buy your company name. If your company name is long and can not be spelled phonetically, you need to get a better domain to focus your marketing on. People should be able to write down or type your domain without you spelling it out several times. The chances of finding a domain that is not already registered is very slim. It is not impossible but very slim. Do not start trying to make something up that is real long and/or has dashes in it. Try to buy a “.com” domain. People expect to see a “.com” for a company website. Stay away from domains like “. net”, “. info”, “. us” etc.... You can certainly buy one of these domains but the downside is you will lose business and links to the “. com” domain. Your best bet is to turn to the after market. Some places to check are:
Sedo,
eBay,
Moniker etc.. There are lots of decent deals out there. You don't have to spend thousands. You can get great domains for under $1000. Also you can try contacting owners of domains you find searching in Google. Don't cheap out when it comes to a domain name. I find it funny that people will spend a good deal of money on office space, furniture, computers, and phone systems yet they refuse to spend more than $8.00 for a domain name
