I notice a lot of my competitor doing it. I think diversified link list is very important, even if your links come from low ranking sites. I’m not sure how robust it is but I do know that it can. I’m working with a client that had a very large amount of content that was previously not in Google because the content required javascript to be seen. Out of nowhere this site has over 600,000 pages of new content in Google that was previously not there. I find that looking at competitor link data is so very important, but equally important is for a business to market and promote themselves online. Because a leader that establishes and positions themselves better then the online competition. Your competitors may have a ton of backlinks, but if they are from on website, or worse, one set of IP address, then it's all a bit fruitless.
